Doyle Wayne Lawson, born April 20, 1944 in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United
States, is an American traditional bluegrass and Southern gospel musician known
for his mandolin playing. Inspired by the Grand Ole Opry, he taught himself to
play the mandolin at age 11. Lawson began his professional career in 1963 with
Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys. In 1979, he formed Doyle Lawson &
Quicksilver, releasing their album Rock My Soul through Sugar Hill Records in
