Douglas Scott Gillard, born December 23, 1965 in Sandusky, Ohio, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and multi‑instrumentalist. He began writing songs at age five and moved to Cleveland after high school, where he worked as a college‑radio DJ while performing with local punk bands. Doug Gillard rose to prominence as a member of Death of Samantha in the 1980s, then joined John Petkovic’s Cobra Verde in the 1990s; Cobra Verde served as the backing band for Guided by Voices during the Mag Earwhig! era.
