Dona Onete, born Ionete da Silveira Gama on June 18, 1939, in Cachoeira do
Arari, Brazil, is a Brazilian vocalist known for her contributions to
traditional music genres. By age fifteen, she was already singing sambas,
quadrilles, and boi bumba. Onete conducted research into regional rhythms,
dances, and traditions. Her breakthrough came with the release of her first
album Feitiço Caboclo (2012) at 73 years old. She developed a hybrid genre
