Donald Winston Thompson, also known as Don Thompson, was born on January 18,
1940, in Powell River, British Columbia, and is a Canadian jazz musician who
plays double bass, piano, and vibes. He began his career as a freelance musician
playing bass in Vancouver from 1960 to 1965. His breakthrough came working with
saxophonist John Handy and performing at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival. In
1967, he returned to Canada and settled in Toronto, joining Rob McConnell’s Boss
