Disciples, a British reggae band, was formed in 1985 in London by Russel "Russ
D" Brown and Lol-Bell "Lol" Brown. In the mid-1970s, Russ D started playing bass
and transitioned from punk to reggae music by the late 1970s after being
inspired by specialised press publications on reggae music. The duo released
their first dubplates in 1985, which were introduced by Jah Shaka at one of his
dances, marking a significant breakthrough for the band. They adopted the name
