Dirty Three were formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1992 by
multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner, and drummer Jim
White, all of whom were born in the early 1970s and had previously played in
various local bands. The trio’s early work began with a self‑titled cassette
recorded in Turner’s bedroom, followed by the 1994 eponymous release on Torn &
Frayed, which established their distinctive instrumental style. They signed with
Anchor & Hope Records and issued Horse Stories in 1996, earning a top three
