Richard Benjamin Haymes, born on September 13, 1916, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a singer. He started his career as a vocalist in various big bands before joining the Harry James orchestra in the early 1940s. In 1942, Frank Sinatra introduced Haymes on radio as his replacement in the Tommy Dorsey band. Haymes co-starred with Jeanne Crain and Dana Andrews in the musical State Fair (1945) and had numerous hit duets during World War II, including "Together" and "Long Ago and Far Away" with Helen Forrest.
