Diamanda Galás

Diamanda Galás, born in San Diego, California on 29 August 1955, is an American musician and singer-songwriter known for her extended soprano technique. She began performing in the early 1970s with the jazz ensemble Black Music Infinity, and released her first solo record, The Litanies of Satan (1982), followed by Diamanda Galás (1982). In 1986, she launched the AIDS trilogy Masque of the Red Death, comprising The Divine Punishment (1986), Saint of the Pit (1986), and You Must Be Certain of the Devil (1988), which established her as a vocal avant‑garde figure.
