David Hobson, born November 18, 1960, in Ballarat, Australia, is an opera tenor and composer. He sang with local choirs as a child and performed with rock bands during his studies at the University of Melbourne. In 1987, David Hobson debuted as Rodolfo in La bohème for the Victorian State Opera's Young Artists Programme. He joined The Australian Opera (now Opera Australia) in 1988, creating the role of Lawrence in Brian Howard's opera Whitsunday.
