Claude Deppa, a South African jazz trumpeter, was born on May 10, 1958 in Cape
Town. He moved to England in 1974 and began focusing on the trumpet during his
secondary school years. Deppa's professional career started with Dave
Holdsworth’s quartet and Johnny Mbizo Dyani’s band. In 1984, he joined the Grand
Union Orchestra led by Tony Haynes. Throughout his career, Deppa collaborated
with notable jazz artists including Art Blakey, Carla Bley, Chris McGregor's
Brotherhood of Breath, Miriam Makeba, Louis Moholo, Evan Parker, and Courtney
