Claire Rutter, born in 1972 in South Shields, United Kingdom, is an English
operatic soprano. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the
National Opera Studio, and trained with British Youth Opera, laying the
groundwork for her professional debut. Rutter’s career advanced with title roles
in Norma and Tosca at Grange Park Opera and in Lucrezia Borgia, La Traviata, and
Aida at English National Opera, followed by Sieglinde in Die Walküre. Her
international appearances included Dallas Opera in 2003 as Fiordiligi in Così
