Chinchilla, a German heavy metal band from Böblingen, was founded in 1988 by Udo Gerstenmeyer. The group released their first single, "No Mercy", in 1990 and disbanded shortly after. In 1994, Gerstenmeyer reformed the band, leading to the release of the EP Who Is Who. Their debut album, Horrorscope, was initially released in Japan in 1997 through Virgin Music before finding distribution in Germany via Point Music in 1998. The band's collaboration with Metal Blade Records began in 2001 with the release of their second album, Madness. Between 2000 and 2004, Chinchilla released several albums, including The Last Millennium, Madtropolis (featuring guest musician Fast Eddie Clarke), and Take No Prisoners. The band toured extensively during this period. After a hiatus from 2011 to 2025, Chinchilla announced a reunion in late 2024 and resumed live performances in early 2025.
