Akil Abdelkader, also known as Cheb Akil, born on June 27, 1974, in Khemis
Miliana, Algeria, was a singer and composer known for his work in the raï music
genre. He started his career at age 13 with an album of covers featuring songs
by Cheb Khaled, Cheb Mami, and Cheb Hasni. In 1989, his song "Ne me quitte pas
Omri" was covered by Cheb Bilal. Akil's breakthrough came with the release of
"Tahasdou oula T'ghirou", which sold over a million copies. Throughout his
