Charles Levi Walker, born on November 2, 1926, in Copeville, Texas, was an
American country music singer. He joined Bill Boyd's Cowboy Ramblers in 1943 and
later served as a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio Network during World
War II. Walker's first hit, "Only You, Only You", co-written with Jack Newman,
reached number 9 on the country chart in January 1956. He achieved his biggest
success with "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down" by Harlan Howard, which peaked at
number 2 after signing with Columbia Records. Walker held membership in the
