Born in Cambridge, United Kingdom, on August 2, 1992, to a father of Scottish
descent and an Indian mother born in Uganda, Charlotte Emma Aitchison adopted
the stage name Charli XCX and recorded her first independent album, 14 (2008),
which remained relatively unknown. Emerging from the British electronic music
scene of rave parties, she released two mixtapes and rose to prominence in 2012
by featuring on the number-one hit “I Love It” by the duo Icona Pop. The
