By combining the radio-friendly hooks of pop/rock with the smooth sounds of
adult contemporary, Chantal Kreviazuk enjoyed success on both sides of the
Canadian/American border around the turn of the 21st century. Born in Winnipeg,
Manitoba, on May 18, 1974, she made her Canadian debut with 1996's Under These
Rocks and Stones. The album received its American release the following year,
and "Surrounded" became a hit in both countries, charting at Number 9 in Canada
