Carolyn Hester
Carolyn Sue Hester, born on January 28, 1937, in Waco, Texas, is an American
folk singer and songwriter. Her first album, Scarlet Ribbons (1958), was
produced by Norman Petty. In 1960, she signed with Tradition Records and became
known for songs like "The House of the Rising Sun" and "She Moved Through the
Fair". Hester played a role in the early 1960s American folk music revival,
helping launch Gerde's Folk City in 1960. In 1961, she invited Bob Dylan to play
