Carl Sonny Leyland
Carl Sonny Leyland, born in 1965 near Southampton, England, is an American
boogie-woogie, blues, and jazz pianist. After discovering boogie‑woogie at 15,
he moved to New Orleans in 1988, establishing a reputation in local clubs for
nine years. In 1997, he relocated to California and joined Big Sandy & His
Flyrite Boys, touring for three years before forming the Carl Sonny Leyland Trio
in 2003, which recorded seven CDs such as Ready to Boogie, Dang Good Boogie, and
Railroad Boogie, and performed at festivals worldwide.
