John McCrea is the lead vocalist and guitarist of the American alt‑rock band
CAKE, formed in Sacramento, California, in August 1991. After recruiting
trumpeter Vincent DiFiore and guitarist Greg Brown, the group released the
independent debut Motorcade of Generosity in 1994, which gained attention on the
college circuit and led to a contract with Capricorn Records. The single "Rock
'n' Roll Lifestyle" entered the Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1995, and the
