Edson Aparecido da Silva, known professionally as Café, was a percussionist born
on December 31, 1949, in Vila Maria, São Paulo, Brazil. Inspired by
Afro-Brazilian music at spiritual gatherings, he began his musical journey at
eight and trained classically for the Municipal Orchestra of São Paulo. Da Silva
shifted to jazz and popular music, performing at local clubs before touring
internationally with notable artists starting in 1980. Da Silva collaborated
extensively with musicians such as Chuck Mangione, Steve Winwood, and Gilberto
