New Orleans jazz
William Geary "Bunk" Johnson, born on December 27, 1889 in New Orleans, Louisiana, was an American jazz trumpeter. He began his musical career playing with local bands around 1910. In 1942, after a hiatus from music, Johnson made his first recordings for Jazz Man Records, which included tracks like "Down by the River" and "Weary Blues". These recordings marked his comeback and led to tours across various cities. Johnson's work from this period showcased his skillful playing. He suffered a stroke in late 1948 and passed away on July 7, 1949, in New Iberia, Louisiana.
