Marion "Buddy" Childers, born on February 12, 1926, in Belleville, Illinois, was
an American jazz trumpeter. At age 16, Childers gained prominence when Stan
Kenton hired him as the lead trumpet player for his band. He worked extensively
with Kenton and also performed with notable big bands led by Tommy Dorsey, Woody
Herman, Les Brown, Charlie Barnet, Dan Terry, and others. Childers also worked
on television programs, including the main title theme of CHiPs season two in
