Brian Q. Torff, born on March 16, 1954 in the United States of America, is a
jazz double-bass player, songwriter, and composer. His career began in 1974
touring with Cleo Laine. In the late 1970s, he performed with Mary Lou Williams,
Marian McPartland, and Stéphane Grappelli, and played in Erroll Garner's last
group. In 1979, Torff joined a duo with pianist George Shearing, touring
extensively and appearing on shows like The Tonight Show and performing at the
