Boyd Albert Raeburn, born on October 27, 1913, in Faith, South Dakota, was an American saxophonist and big-band leader. He started his career in the 1930s leading dance bands, including a college orchestra at the University of Chicago. Raeburn formed a jazz big band in the early 1940s, gaining popularity through radio broadcasts from Chicago’s Chez Paree. In 1944, his band, featuring arrangements by George Handy, was known for its avant-garde dissonances.
