Bobby Matos
Bobby Matos was an American Latin jazz percussionist born on July 24, 1941 in
the Bronx, New York. He began playing music by hitting pots and pans in his
grandmother's apartment. As a youth, he studied conga drums with Patato Valdez
and Mongo Santamaría. Matos was also encouraged to play timbales by musicians
Willie Bobo and Tito Puente. In the late 1960s, he recorded the album My Latin
Soul for Phillips International Records, which established his reputation as a
