Bob Wills
James Robert "Bob" Wills, born on March 6, 1905, in Kosse, Texas, was an
American musician, songwriter, and bandleader. Raised in a musically inclined
family, he learned to play the fiddle and mandolin from his father, who was a
champion fiddler. In his early career, Wills formed several bands and played at
radio stations across the South and West until 1934 when he established the
Texas Playboys. He quickly became known for incorporating jazz elements into
country music.
