Bob Eberly was born Robert Eberle on July 24, 1916. He launched his career after winning an amateur talent contest on Fred Allen's radio program in 1935, earning a spot with the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra before joining Jimmy Dorsey's orchestra, where he remained until late 1943. During the early 1940s, Eberly and Helen O'Connell recorded hits with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, including "Amapola" and "Tangerine".
