Armenter Chatmon, known as Bo Carter, was born on June 30, 1892, in Bolton,
Mississippi. He learned to play various instruments from his father Henderson
Chatmon. In 1928, Bo Carter began his recording career and joined the
Mississippi Sheiks, a group that included his brothers Lonnie and Sam Chatmon.
He managed the group and contributed to their recordings, notably "Corrine,
Corrina" which became a hit for Big Joe Turner. In 1930, Carter started his solo
career under the name Bo Carter, releasing over 110 tracks by the end of the
