Bill Watrous
William Russell Watrous III, born on June 8, 1939 in Middletown, Connecticut,
was an American jazz trombonist. Introduced to the instrument by his father at a
young age, Watrous began his professional career performing with Billy
Butterfield's band after studying with jazz pianist Herbie Nichols while serving
in the U.S. Navy. His career flourished in the 1960s, playing and recording with
prominent musicians such as Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Quincy
Jones, and Johnny Richards. He released his debut album In Love Again in 1968.
