Betty Garrett was an American singer, actress, and dancer born in the United
States in 1919. Garrett began a professional career in 1938 and made a Broadway
debut in the revue Of V We Sing (1942). They received critical recognition for
the role in Call Me Mister (1946), in which they performed the song “South
America Take It Away” (1946). Signed to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Garrett made a film
debut in Big City (1948) and appeared in musicals including Words and Music
