Basil Salvador Valdez, born on November 8, 1951 in Manila, Philippines, is a
Filipino singer. His musical journey began during his college years when he
performed impromptu at a Catholic retreat, substituting for an ill guitarist and
singing "The Fool on the Hill" by The Beatles and "Alfie" by Dionne Warwick.
Valdez became a prominent balladeer as Original Pilipino Music (OPM) flourished
in the 1970s. He was part of the Circus Band, which also produced soloists like
