Harvey Charles Goering, known professionally as Barrelhouse Chuck, was born on
July 10, 1958 in Columbus, Ohio. He started playing drums at age six and later
transitioned to the piano. After moving to Gainesville, Florida, Goering was
inspired by Muddy Waters' records and began learning blues piano techniques. He
achieved distinction as the only Chicago blues pianist to have studied under
legends including Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Blind John Davis, Detroit
