Avishai Cohen
Born in the Kabri kibbutz in Israel on April 20, 1970, Avishai Cohen grew up
near Jerusalem and learned to play the piano before switching to the electric
bass at age 14, and then to the jazz double bass under the tutelage of Michael
Klinghoffer. A student at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, he then moved to New
York to study and met pianist Danilo Pérez, who invited him to join his trio. In
1997, Avishai Cohen was invited to join pianist Chick Corea’s two new groups:
Chick Corea’s New Trio and the Origin ensemble, with which the double bassist
