Allison Ponthier was born on February 26, 1996, in Allen, Texas, and later
adopted the stage name August Ponthier; she is an American folk singer,
guitarist, and songwriter. After studying jazz at the University of North Texas,
she moved to Brooklyn in 2017 and began posting covers and original songs on
TikTok, gaining attention for her queer‑themed lyrics. In 2020 she signed with
Interscope Records, and her debut EP Faking My Own Death (2021) featured the
single "Cowboy," which Billboard listed among the “25 Best Songs By LGBTQ
