Arthur Jones
Arthur Jones, born in 1940 in Cleveland, USA, was an American jazz alto
saxophonist known for his energetic yet warm tones. Initially playing in a rock
and roll band, Jones transitioned to free jazz after discovering the music of
Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy. He began performing on the New York scene,
joining Frank Wright's group and contributing to the recording of Your Prayer
(1967). In 1968, Jones became a member of Sunny Murray's Acoustical Swing Unit,
leading to his relocation to Paris in 1969 where he recorded two volumes of
