Aquiles Alejandro Báez Reyes (performing as Aquiles Báez; March 1, 1964 –
September 12, 2022) was a Venezuelan folk and jazz guitarist, cuatrista, and
composer from Caracas. Báez learned the cuatro from his brother Julio and later
studied mandolin, viola, and percussion. During his childhood, Báez frequented a
17th-century family home in La Vela de Coro known as “La Casa Azul”. Báez
composed the song “La Casa Azul” for his third album, inspired by the location.
