Antonio Rivas Padilla, born on April 28, 1949, in Istmina, Colombia, is an
accordionist. He began playing the diatonic accordion at age 15 and later earned
a Master's degree in Mathematics from Colombia. In 1984, Rivas founded the group
Antonio y sus Vallenatos in Montpellier, France, followed by Novedad Vallenata
in Paris with Nemesio Jiménez in 1987. His international recognition grew
through performances at events like WOMEX in Brussels and the UNESCO 50th
