Annette Hanshaw
Catherine Annette Hanshaw, born on October 18, 1901 in New York, was an American
Jazz Age singer. She started her career singing at society events and local
radio stations, then made her first commercial recordings "Black Bottom" and
"Six Feet of Papa" in September 1926. Hanshaw recorded extensively throughout
the late 1920s and early 1930s under various labels including Pathé and Columbia
Records. She was a popular radio star, notably featured on NBC's Maxwell House
Show Boat. In 1934, she was voted the Best Female Popular Singer by Radio Stars
