Angélique Kidjo (born Ouidah, July 14, 1960) has established herself as one of
Benin's most popular singers. Embracing eclectic styles, from Afrobeat to soul
and reggae, and surrounding herself with a host of international musicians, she
scored major hits with "Batonga" and "Sénié " (from Logozo, 1991), "Agolo" and
"Adouma" (from the following album Aye, recorded at Prince's Paisley Park
studios in 1994). The following year, accompanied by Jean Hébrail, she toured
Benin, recording traditional rhythms for the album Fifa, which means "peace" in
