And One, a German synthpop group originating from Berlin, was formed in 1989 by
Steve Naghavi and Chris Ruiz. Inspired by bands such as Front 242, Nitzer Ebb,
and Depeche Mode, the duo initially consisted of two keyboardists accompanied by
a drum machine. They released their debut album Anguish in 1991, which marked
their breakthrough moment. The group's lineup expanded to include Alex Two
before the release of Anguish, and they were named Breakthrough Act of the Year.
