Albert Nicholas, born on May 27, 1900 in New Orleans, Louisiana, was an American jazz clarinet player. He began playing under the tutelage of his uncle Wooden Joe Nicholas and clarinetist Lorenzo Tio. After early engagements with King Oliver, Buddy Petit and Manuel Perez, he formed his own band featuring Barney Bigard and Luis Russell; in 1924 he joined King Oliver’s Dixie Syncopators in Chicago and later toured Shanghai, Cairo and Alexandria.
