Clarence Albert Poindexter, known professionally as Al Dexter, was born on May
4, 1905, in Jacksonville, Texas. He was an American country musician and
songwriter who started his musical career with dance bands and formed The
Troopers in the early 1930s. Dexter's breakthrough came with "Honky Tonk Blues",
released by a small label. In 1934, he signed his first record deal with
Vocalion Records after being discovered in New Orleans. By the late 1930s, under
