Albert Allick Bowlly, born on 7 January 1898 in Lourenço Marques, Portuguese Mozambique, was a British vocalist, crooner, and dance band guitarist. His early career began in the 1920s with dance bands across South Africa and the Dutch East Indies, culminating in his first recording of "Blue Skies" in 1927. In 1928, Bowlly joined the Savoy Hotel orchestra and later the bands of Roy Fox, Ray Noble, and Lew Stone, recording over 500 songs including "Midnight, the Stars and You", "Goodnight, Sweetheart", and "The Very Thought of You".
