Akua Patricia Dixon, born on July 14, 1948 in New York City, is an American
cellist and singer. Coming from a musical family, she co-founded the string
quartet Quartette Indigo with her sister Gayle Dixon after completing classical
music studies in 1972. The group accompanied artists such as Carmen McRae and
Dizzy Gillespie. During the 1970s, Dixon taught cello and singing in Harlem
schools and at the New Muse Community Museum in Brooklyn. She collaborated
