Carl Åke Persson was born on February 25, 1932 in Hässleholm, Sweden. He was a Swedish bebop jazz trombonist who began his career playing the valve trumpet in school before switching to the trombone. Known by the nickname "the Comet", he relocated to Stockholm in 1951 to join Simon Brehm's quintet, performing with the group until 1954. He subsequently worked as a prominent sideman, collaborating with Arne Domnérus, Hacke Björksten, and Harry Arnold's Radio Band.
