Aja Monet Bacquie, born 21 August 1987 in Brooklyn, New York, is an American
poet, writer, spoken‑word vocalist, composer and producer who later settled in
Los Angeles. She began writing poetry at eight and debuted publicly in high
school, winning a talent show that propelled her into the New York literary
scene and led to her founding the club SABA. Aja Monet’s first major musical
output arrived with the album when the poems do what they do in 2023, featuring
