Regis Fayette‑Mikano, known professionally as Abd al Malik, was born on 14 March
1975 in the 14th arrondissement of Paris and emerged as a French rapper, slam
poet, songwriter, producer, writer, filmmaker, actor and screenwriter. He began
his musical path in the late 1980s by co‑founding the rap collective New African
Poets (NAP) with his brother Bilal and cousin Aissa, while simultaneously
